NHL RULES
About NHL Rules:
The National Hockey League (NHL) adheres to same rules that are abided by the ice hockey, with a little variation from the ones that are exercised by international games, which are held by IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) as such the Olympics. Violations of the NHL Rules can cause the stoppage of the game or either can lead to icing and offside calls. Penalties are usually issued for serious violations.
Progression of NHL Rules:
The NHL rules were transformed due to the opposition witnessed, in the year 2004 and 2005. The NHL altered few rules with regards to offside. Foremost, NHL took away offside pass rule that involves stopping the game, if pass aroused from within the team defending zone and finished in offensive side near center line, except if, the hockey puck crosses line previous to the player. Moreover, the NHL also reestablished tag up offside rule that enables attacking players to hold a chance of getting back onside, if returned in neutral zone. This offside rule was more or less altered with the view of increasing the total score, which was noticing a decline in past years around middle of 90’s.
Penalties:
The penalties levied by NHL include minor as well as double minor penalties that are termed by IIHF plays. Major penalties include dangerous violations of the ordinances as such fighting. Paradoxically in the IIHF rules, the player violating major rules are usually penalized in the way the player gets chucked out from the team. The penalty has to be served till completion, irrespective of the goals scored while playing. |
